Do not Export if empty report
the Parameter Name and Value works WONDERS. You have done a GREAT job on this. You asked for suggestions, so here goes.... Lets say that I have a template report that needs to be sent out to User1, User2, and User3. I can set the Parameter values for the users. If the Parameter value returns no data for User2, currently Delivery will send an email to them. Anyway to modify this so that if the report has NO RESULTS, that it will NOT email or export?

I have attempted to do this in the past without any success. I have found any function that lets me verify a valid data set. I will try to find some way of doing this in the next complete rewrite.

Do not export empty report
Hi. I completely agree that this would be a highly useful feature. I am setting up a number of CR that essentially check the database for exception type conditions (e.g., ship date vs. order date lead time not reasonable)... but don't want overload the destination e-mail addresses with tons of spam when there is nothing to report. I know you said this would be part of the re-write. Do you have a sense of timetable? Otherwise, we will likely invest in an alerts application that creates triggers (which we would use to check for the conditions and then execute CR when needed). Thanks! - Neil

My best guess is the rewrite will be available Sep 2006. Even with that in mind, I still do not have a way to verify a valid set of data.

OK, thanks. The timetable alone is helpful to know. Best regards, -Neil

Finally, thanks to some input from JohnW, CD can generate an alert if a report is empty. This option is found by pressing 'Config'. The alert email now includes the parameter settings for the report the generated the alert.

It is nice that that we are now receiving a mail to alert if a blank report is sent, however what would be more useful is an check box option on each report, to not email out a report if that report has returned no data. This would serve two needs, the option to send out a blank report to customers who desire some feedback even if the report is blank, and to serve some custoners who do not want to receive blank reports as they then believe that there has been a problem running the report. thank you

Hi Kevin, Just checking in to see if this is an option in the new version. I just upgraded to 7.0.4.5 and it is very impressive! I like the ability to add/edit report while in auto-mode. Before it was stop the scheduler and then add/edit. I created a report which we want to run hourly to check if someone's time is off on their computer. This is done by checking the ticketing system receive date with the current date and seeing if the difference is negative. Is the feature to not export if no records available? Thanks! Peter

Peter, This option is not available yet. I switched from using Crystal Report Developer Edition to Crystal Reports.NET (included with VB.NET) and haven't found an equivalent command for reading the number for records to determine if a report is empty. I am considering moving back to Crystal Reports Developer Edition to address several limitations I have come across while using CR.Net. But I struggle with this decision because this would require that I continually purchase the developer edition of Crystal Reports (over $500) and deal with the ever changing licensing restrictions.

I completely understand. Thanks Kevin. I've been pestering my employer to give you a few $ for your great program. It might take awhile, but hopefully I succeed. Wish me luck.. :-) Peter

I went ahead and purchased Crystal Reports Developer Edition XI. The next release should have the alerts option included.

Alerts are available in 7.0.5.0.
