Firstly many thanks to kgroff for this awesome piece of software, I have tried a dozen or so similar product some costing £1000. But this piece of software does it just as well if not better than all of them.

I have one issue however, I am using crystal report 10 and have installed this application on a Window 2003 machine (with CR10 also installed) a Win XP machine without CR installed at all, and I have installed on a Win XP Pro SP2 machine with CR 10.

CD works perfectly on my XP Pro SP2 machine, however on both the 2003 and XP without CR certain feature aren't accessible.

For example if I click the Config or SMTP buttons in the toolbar nothing happens no errors but the form is not displayed. The same happen in the Report Name >> button nothing happens - so effetely renders the application unusable on these two machines. However all the other functions work as normal.

The installation on both XP machine went smoothly, the Win 2003 machine wouldn't let the installer update a hhctrl.ocx as it was protected by the O.S I understand from this forum that its only used for the help file? Please note the installation continued and finished on the 2003 machine.

Firstly can you confirm whether CR needs to be installed on the machine to run a report?

Secondly can you advice as to why CD might not be operating on these two machines? As far as I know both the Windows 2003 and XP machines are fresh installs with no specialised software running on them.

Please note the other XP machine is running CD perfectly.

Thanks again for all the people that have worked on this project.

2003 remains a mystery. I do not have access to 2003, so I can not do any debug work to find why it doesn't work. Other users have worked around this issue by creating the report list and then copying the files (...{install folder}ScheduledReports) to their 2003 machine for running.

To my knowledge, I have included every merge module required for CD to run without Crystal Reports being installed. I have installed CD successfully on another XP box without Crystal Reports and it has run correctly. That being said, I will look at the install again to see if I there is something it is lacking. You may want to try to install the VB6 runtime files from Microsoft to see if it makes a difference.

This is the first I have heard about the SMTP and Config buttons. What I can do is email you a version of CD with all of the error handling turned off. This should allow the error message (if one exists) to appear when you click on these buttons. You could then send me the error info, or screen capture, and I will try to replicate the error to fix the problem.

Hello

I've the same problem on a win2K SP4 workstation. I'm ready to use a version of CD with all of the error handling turned off.

Had the same problem, and assume that it has something to do with system DLLs. My DLL-dependency tool tells me that there are other DLLs on the functional machine, but they aren't enough to make me think I found the problem.

Just comparing the non-functioning system (clean install XPsp2 with all windows updates) to ones that work, I notices that all the functioning system have now or had in the past Office 2003.

I installed Office 2003 on the "bad" system and CD started working. Even after uninstalling Office 2003 and rebooting, CD continues to work. Yay!

It's a workaround, not a fix, but I thought you all might be happy to have even that...

Crystal 9, Microsoft Windows 2000 SP4, those buttons also do not work.

Installed a spare copy of Microsoft Office XP Professional (no key needed as it will not be used) and the buttons now work.

Ironically it got another freeware app to work too.

Good going on that work around!

Why isn't it an option? You don't have to leave it installed, just get it on there so that whatever seems to be missing can be installed, but left behind when you uninstall it.

Even an eval copy, free from the MS website, should do the trick...

For sometime I have been trying to get CD to run on 2k3 - Unfortunantely it doesn't seem to work unless you have Office installed.

I have been trying to pin point the exact cause without much luck I am hoping the following might help...

I have CD running on a XP machine with office no problems, I have the another copy of CD running on 2k3 however the SMTP, CONFIG buttons don't appear to do anything when clicked.

I have run CD through viusal studio debugger and get the following;

I am not a programmer but I understand this error to be caused by a calcualtion returning a unhandled remainder.

So I was thinking along the lines of one of MS common controls has a bug in it that w2k3 has been patched with yet - so I compared all the DLL's and OCX's CD uses between the 2 machines and get the following;

Bottom Line = 2k3

I was expecting to see an old OCX or DLL on the 2k3 box - however the only older one was mscomctl.ocx and I have tried updating it but still get the error.

I know installing office will fix the problem but this is not possible on our server so need to get to the root of the problem. Any ideas as where I can go from here?

Installing Office 2003 fixes this problem, however I can't install office on our production server.

I diff'ed the DLL's and OCX's CD uses after installing office and there are no differences in the version numbers. I am pretty sure it must be a part of the program filescommon files that office installs where the problems lies.

If anyone could pin point the cause of the problem I would be very grateful as we can't use CD whichout getting it running on a w2k3 box.

Another point worth noting is the error i mentioned previously when clicking on a button in debug mode still happens when its working, apart from every button click on Config or SMTP on a working version returns 4 errors rather than 1 so I think that error is a bit of a red herring

Why not? You don't have to leave it installed; just install it and uninstall it. Don't even fool around with activation if that's the version you have available. This is what I did, and it worked flawlessly, and a reboot wasn't necessary, so my production box never "blipped."

If nothing else, get a trial copy from Microsoft if you're worried about licensing issues.

I can't install office because our companies change control procedures don't allow it as this is a production system. I understand installing office is the quick fix but I don't have that option.
